lentil dhal

400g red lentils
4 small onions
1 tin tomatoes
2 green chillies
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp cumin powder
Salt to taste
6 tbsp. oil

  1. Chop chillies, tomatoes and onions.
  2. Wash lentils, put in pan with 1½ pints cold water, and turmeric and cook for ½hr over medium heat when all liquid absorbed.
  3. Fry onions till golden and chillies, spices and tomatoes and mix well with lentils.  Add water if needed and bring to boil, stirring continuously.
