Kitchen Remedies

A few weeks ago, I attended a Kitchen Remedies Workshop; below are the notes that I took from it:

Post-coughs and colds: beetroot is great

Horse radish: makes you pee, flushes out toxins

Ginger: good to improve circulation, anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea

Onion and ginger syrup for coughs and sore throats:

  • Chop up some onion, ginger, and garlic
  • Layer with sugar in a jar
  • Leave for several hours
  • Filter out the onion and ginger bits then drink the syrup, 1 tbsp at a time

Onion & garlic: great general anti-bacteria

Preventative medicinal vinegar (against cold and flu; anti-infective):

  • Cider vinegar
  • Garlic
  • Some other herbs – eg rosemary, mint, lavender
  • Leave in a pot for 2 weeks then strain into a bottle. Take 1 tsp per day

1 drop tea tree oil dissolved in honey and added to hot water = sore throat treatment

Lavender essential oil: apply neat on burns to reduce scarring

St John’s Wort oil = also great for reducing scarring

Temple rub:

  • Sunflower oil + basil essential oil (studying and concentration) & rosemary essential oil (stimulating) OR lavender essential oil (relaxing)

Cardamom tea: break outside of seeds and put a few in a teacup then pour over hot water
